Pete Rose Lifetime Ban Update: Hits Leader Using Donald Trump Strategy In Reinstatement Bid [VIDEO]

Pete Rose is taking a page out of Donald Trump's playbook -- just get on television, a lot, and people will love you.

Enough to get Rose's lifetime ban from baseball lifted? That's the question.

Rose could be back broadcasting for Fox in 2016 after his somewhat successful stint as a postseason studio analyst for the network, CBS Sports is reporting.

Baseball's all-time hits leader has requested that new Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred reinstate him. Manfred has said he expects to reach a decision before the end of the year.

"Manfred may be the most open-minded commissioner in history, but it's illogical to believe he's lifting the ban his mentor Bud Selig didn't lift for 20-plus years," CBS Sports reported. "It's illogical for a number of reasons: 1. MLB hates gambling, and considers it the worst sin there is, well above steroids. 2. The evidence is unclear that Rose has significantly reconfigured his life (beyond becoming a TV personality). 3. MLB really hates gambling."

Trump, who has been among the frontrunners for the Republican nomination for President, has benefited from his popularity as a former television game show host (he served as CEO on NBC's The Apprentice). That gave him a huge voice during his 2016 campaign.

Maybe the magic of television will rub off on Rose.

"Fox is said to be happy with Rose. Fox spokesman Dan Bell, in fact, says they're so pleased with Rose's performance this year they intend to bring him back for more next season," CBS Sports reported. "They have an eclectic group, and it's hard to take your eye off them, I'll say that. For my taste, Rose's on-air demeanor leans toward clownish, but I wouldn't be surprised if it drew viewers. His lean-in mugging moment for the camera while the excellent C.J. Nitkowski was making a salient point was classic Rose.

"He is your crazy uncle, albeit one with a past."

Kinda like The Donald.

"Did the Rose as an analyst thing work well for Fox? Well, maybe," Awful Announcing reported. "At some points, he was hilarious. At others, cringeworthy. But Rose got people talking, and while that's obviously not the best criteria for choosing an analyst, it at least helped Fox's MLB coverage stand out a bit from previous years."

If Pete can win over the American people, that might influence Manfred's decision -- if not now, then in the future.
