Social injustice on the University of Missouri campus leads to the resignation of university president Tom Wolfe and Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin.
Racial unrest on the campus caused the Tigers football team to say enough. If things did not change with the resignation of President Wolfe, the team threatened to walk out on Saturday's game against BYU which would have cost the university a million dollars.
Wolfe made this statement though USA Today.
"I am resigning as president of the University Missouri system," said Wolfe, who choked up as he announced he was stepping down. "My motivation in making this decision comes from a love of Columbia where I grew up and the state of Missouri. I thought and prayed over this decision. It is the right thing to do ... The frustration and anger I see is real, and I don't doubt it for a second."
The frustration and anger by students are understandable. A swastika was drawn on a bathroom wall, cotton balls thrown at black students and also racial slurs were hurled at the SGA president who is black.
Complaints were made; nothing was done, that is until the football team decided to get involved.
When black football players threatened to walk-out on this coming Saturday's football game, action was taken and attention was paid.
Even Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel took a stand with his players despite some cries from some fans and alumni who thought him and the team should stay out of social issues.
But as with the Michael Sam situation, they took a stand and it paid off.
