Notre Dame IN; Fighting Irish Makes the College Football Committee’s Top-4, Big 12 Maybe in Trouble

As many thought, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame is in the College Football Committee's top-4 rankings, moving into the spot where Alabama occupied last week.

The Crimson Tide moved into the No. 2 spot behind No. 1 Clemson, to no one's surprise. Ohio State remained at No. 3.

The last two out, according to the committee, would be Iowa at No. 5 and Baylor at No. 6.

Iowa at No. 5 shocked many college football experts who expected Oklahoma State to either be No. 5 or in the top four. The committee chair Jeff Long tried to explain by OK St. was not top four as some expected.

Here's a snippet of what Long said that was posted by Stewart Mandel of Fox Sports.com.

"Oklahoma State had a good win," said Long, but, "That's the first piece of real strength that we've seen from them."

One thing that is becoming apparent, the committee is not a huge fan of the Big 12 mainly because of their out of conference schedule and that they don't play the meat of their schedule until the last few weeks of the season.

Long basically said, that when talking about why an undefeated Baylor was behind Notre Dame and Iowa.

"(Baylor) doesn't have a win over a team with a winning record yet."

Long is just confirming what a lot of the media is thinking; schedule matters. While teams like Notre Dame and Alabama play tougher schedules, Baylor's none conference included the likes of Lamar and SMU; not exactly world beaters.

This may all be a mute point if Notre Dame wins out. If that were to happen, the Big 12 may be left out again.
