Green Bay Packers Rumors: Recently-Benched Eddie Lacy Is The Biggest Fantasy Football Bust Of 2015 [VIDEO]

Packers coach Mike McCarthy confirmed what fantasy owners have already figured out -- Eddie Lacy is not the Pack’s back to own. McCarthy has officially named James Starks Green Bay’s lead back, based on his play this season and nagging injuries to Lacy.

“He’s earned that opportunity,” McCarthy said of Starks, who has only rushed for 48 yards in his last two games. Starks contributed six catches and 83 yards in the receiving game last week, as well as a touchdown.

Rodgers' Frustration Finally Boils Over

Starks has rushed 78 times for 334 yards and one touchdown in 2015, while Lacy has carried the ball 83 times for 308 yards and two scores. Lacy has also not approached the productivity he showed in the passing game last season, making him a less attractive pairing with pass-happy quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Fantasy owners are inevitably shaking their heads at this news, since their investment in Lacy was undoubtedly high. Lacy was a consensus top-5 pick in most fantasy leagues, and yet he has been held to 10 rushing yards or fewer in three different games this season. He hasn’t rushed for 100 yards yet, and he’s only rushed for more than 50 yards twice all year.

Randall Cobb At Fault For Rodgers' Low Passing Numbers

Fantasy owners should take heart, however, in the first round of 2015 drafts being a fantasy graveyard. Several top running backs have either been massive disappointments, or suffered injuries. Names like Le’Veon Bell (Steelers), C.J. Anderson (Broncos), Jamaal Charles, DeMarco Murray and Marshawn Lynch have all under-delivered.

Of all of them, however, Lacy’s fall from grace has been the most excruciating. Don’t give up on him just yet as a football player, but it’s hard to see him being relevant in 2015 without an injury to Starks.
