The Jets have a problem—cornerback Darrelle Revis, the lynchpin of their strong defense, isn’t quite what he used to be. Revis’ reunion with the Jets this offseason was much-hyped and met with excitement. He was given a five-year, $70 million contract, and thus far, the results have been strong.
But something’s off. He was beaten for a touchdown earlier this year by Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon, and he was burned by Sammy Watkins on Thursday night in Week 10, getting bailed out by a bad throw. On Sunday, Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins had his way with No. 24.

“With the media blowing up Revis Island, I had to come out and answer,” Hopkins told The New York Post. “Times like this, for a great defensive back and a young receiver, not a lot of people have me in their eyes. I know it was a big chip on my shoulder to go out there and play extra hard.”
Revis was torched for a long touchdown, and later sustained a concussion delivering a hard hit. Revis is still excellent, but these three CBs may have passed him by.

Patrick Peterson, Cardinals
Peterson is a more imposing physical specimen with greater athleticism and much more speed than Revis. Where the Jets standout had Peterson was technique, and smarts. Those traits are still strong in Revis, but they’re improving for Peterson who is also a long way from physical decline.
Revis may no longer be able to shut down truly gifted wide receivers, but on Sunday night he locked down A.J. Green of the Bengals, who reeled in a 42-yard catch the first time Peterson wasn’t on him.
Desmond Trufant, Falcons
Trufant is entering the type of zone Revis occupied during his first stint with the Jets when teams didn’t even throw his way. Much of the debate surrounding Revis vs. Richard Sherman as the NFL’s top CB centered on Sherman’s statistics, and notably his interception totals. Those who backed Revis defended his low number of picks by complaining quarterbacks avoided him.
The same thing is happening in Atlanta, where Trufant has only registered nine pass defenses. He has no interceptions, and talked about his boring days in late October to Fox Sports. "You watch the film, it's rarely coming to my side. I don't know what other corner has been thrown at less. I can't think of one,” Trufant said.
Josh Norman, Panthers
The Panthers are now 10-0, and while quarterback Cam Newton is deservedly getting MVP buzz, CB Josh Norman is shutting down opposing No. 1 receivers like Revis once did. Norman, 27, has Carolina ranked No. 1 against opposing No. 1s this season per FootballOutsiders.com. Teams are still testing him though, and he’s responding by picking them off (five interceptions). He has almost as much to do with Carolina’s unbeaten run thus far as Newton.
