Boston Red Sox Rumors: $30 Million Not Enough To Keep David Price From Signing With Cardinals [VIDEO]

Don't assume David Price to the Red Sox is a done deal. At least not according to Peter Gammons.

Price -- who enters free agency after being traded to the Blue Jays in July -- has garnered interest from, among other teams, the Cubs, Dodgers and Giants. Boston, however, enters as the clear frontrunner for his services. GM Dave Dombrowski is said to be infatuated with Price, enough to overpay for his signature.

GMs Don't Want To Trade For Hanley Ramirez

"I just think that Dombrowski loves him and he is part of the job Dave took [in Boston]," one GM told Peter Gammons, per Gammonsdaily.com.

Another NL Gm speculated "Boston will go $30-40M above anyone else."

The Red Sox Better Off Trading For Chris Sale

Admittedly, $30-40 million above asking price is enough to secure anyone's signature, but so is the possibility of playing in St. Louis.

Gammons doesn't write off Price's chances of joining the Cardinals to become part of the club's "next generation of big-time young pitchers," with Alex Reyes serving as his throwing mate.

Like the Red Sox, the Cardinals have enjoyed major success the last decade. Three NL pennants and two World Series titles -- coupled with five consecutive playoff appearances -- catapulted the franchise into baseball's elite.

The money won't follow him to St. Louis, but the consistent backing of a well-run organization will.

For a pitcher who's 2-7 in the postseason, that's all you could ask for.
