Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova Feud Update: Neither Star Was WTA's Most Popular In 2015 [VIDEO]

While pundits keep weighing in on the Serena Williams-Maria Sharapova feud, they may be shocked to learn that neither is the most popular player by one standard.

Romania's Simona Halep, currently the No. 2 female tennis player in the world, earned the most clicks on the WTA Tour website, according to tennisworldusa.org.

In fact, Halep garnered that distinction for the second straight year.

"Romanian tennis player Simona Halep has been the most clicked player on the WTA Tour website for the second year in a row with the World No. 2 beating such tennis superstars as the Williams sisters and Maria Sharapova," tennisworldusa.org reported. "Halep is ranked second in the world after recording her best ever season on the tour.

"Serena Williams, who won three Grand Slam titles this year, came in second ... with Sharapova coming in third place, followed by Agnieszka Radwanska, Eugenie Bouchard, Ana Ivanovic, Caroline Wozniacki, Garbine Muguruza, Petra Kvitova and Venus Williams, who came in at No. 10."

It's a pretty amazing stat considering that Sharapova long has been the top female in total annual earnings while Williams has been the unquestioned No. 1 player in the world for the last four years.

Halep had a 49-17 record in 2015, winning three events, including Indian Wells. She also reached the semifinals of the U.S. Open before losing to eventual champion Flavia Pennetta.

She's also known for having breast reduction surgery, which seemed to elevate her game, and she recently hired former Andre Agassi mentor Darren Cahill to guide her in 2016.

Halep burst onto the scene as a major contender in 2014, and she showed staying power, thanks to the interest she gained on the WTA site.
