New York Knicks Rumors: Floyd Mayweather Helping Jimmer Fredette Resurrect NBA Career [VIDEO]

Under the watchful eye of Floyd Mayweather, Jimmer Fredette is attempting to resurrect his NBA career.

The former BYU star scored 37 points and had eight assists in his NBA D-League debut Monday, leading the Westchester Knicks to a 102-90 victory over Grand Rapids, according to The New York Post.

Mayweather, who is friends with Westchester guard Jordan Crawford, apparently became energized by Fredette's play, to the point of yelling instructions from his seat, Fredette said.

Fredette, the 10th pick of the 2011 NBA Draft, has spent four unproductive years in the league. He was drafted by the Bucks but shipped on the draft night to the Kings, where he spent two-plus seasons.

The Bulls acquired Fredette for the 2013-14 season, and he played with the Pelicans last season. Fredette joined the Spurs for training camp the 2015-16 but was cut. After Westchester selected him in the D-League draft, the Pelicans re-signed the shooting guard but released him after four games.

If he can improve other aspects of his game, his shooting would be a great asset to New York, which has struggled with its perimeter shooting this season (18th in the league in 3-point shooting percentage at 33.6). The parent club Knicks still have a roster spot available in New York, the Post reported.

"It was good [Jimmer] was in New Orleans to see where he's at,'' Westchester general manager Allan Houston told MSG Network, according to the Post. "We'll continue to push him to improve. He's still 26 and still young.''

If Fredette can add to other aspects of his game, the Knicks could be hailed as geniuses for nabbing both Fredette and Kristaps Porzingis.
