Tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles Kings (1-0-0) travel to Winnipeg for a tilt with the Jets (1-0-0) live from MTS Centre in Winnipeg. The game can be live streamed here. Los Angeles fans can hear all the action on KTLK AM 1150, while Jets fans can do the same on TSN 1290
Both of these teams are off to strong starts and look to get to 2-0, but only one will emerge victorious when they hit the ice tonight. The Jets, now a member of the Western Conference, took the last meeting between these two teams in a shootout on Dec. 29, 2011 and look to kick off their home opener with a bang.
The Jets topped the Oilers in Edmonton 5-4 Tuesday while the Kings rallied for a shootout victory in a road win over the Minnesota Wild Thursday.
Kings net minder Jonathan Quick stopped 27 shots in regulation and overtime Thursday and two more attempts in the shootout, but it was a save by forward Trevor Lewis that was the story of the game. With Quick down during a scramble, Lewis dove and was able to block Matt Cooke's shot in what looked to be an easy goal into an empty net in the final minute of regulation to send the game to overtime.
"I just tried to make myself big and it hit me. I think it was a pretty good butterfly," Lewis said per NHL.com. "They said I looked like a roller hockey goalie out there."
Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter both scored in the shootout for Los Angeles. Kopitar played in all but one game in last year's 48-game lockout-shortened season and netted 10 goals and 32 assists for 42 points while Carter appeared in all 48 and had 26 goals and seven assists for 33 points.
The Jets, meanwhile, are looking to win their first home opener in three tries since moving to Manitoba from Atlanta in 2011.
"It's always exciting to have your home opener in front of your fans," captain Andrew Ladd told NHL.com. "They're excited after a long summer and so are the players. We're looking to build off that first win in Edmonton and get better."
Ladd played in all 48 games for Winnipeg last season, compiling 18 goals and 28 assists for 46 points. Goalie Ondrej Pavelec made 34 saves in Tuesday's win and is coming off of a season where he went 21-20-3 in 44 games with a 2.80 GAA and a .905 save percentage.
Both of these teams look to go to 2-0 and Winnipeg tries to win its home opener for the first time since moving while Los Angeles has other ideas when these teams clash tonight
