NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant On Course To Be League's All Time Leading Scorer [VIDEO]

Kevin Durant has proven time and again that he is a good scorer, whether in the paint or taking the shot from afar. Such is a reason why he has already racked up a total of 16,081 career points in just his ninth year in the NBA.

At the rate he is going, there is no question he can break the scoring record held by former Lakers great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who currently holds the title with a total of 38,387 as mentioned via The Washington Post.

Take note that Jabbar achieved that in 20 seasons. And while it seems like a long way to go, it wouldn’t be surprising if Durant can do that in lesser time, though that will depend on his production. Kareem had his share of off nights as well during his prime.

Why? Well for one, the two have glaring differences in their game.

Jabbar mostly did it from the inside, capped by his patented sky hook. He made a living inside the paint and was hard to stop.

Durant, on the other hand, boasts a golden stroke. He can hit it from downtown and take it hard to the rim. Comparing their games, they are totally different as far as playing style is concerned, so it may all boil down to durability.

Kareem had his share of injuries but a lot of it happened during the latter part of his career. Unlike Durant, who's been prone to injuries.

But Durant is athletic and loves to take unorthodox shots. One can only imagine the wear and tear such would render on his extremities, and proof of that was seeing him sit out majority of last season.

Regardless, LeBron James sees Durant wresting the scoring title from Jabbar sooner or later.

“Never had a guy that’s seven foot, can jump like that, can shoot like that, handle the ball like that. So it sets him apart,” James said before Thursday night's win over the Thunder, according to ESPN.

The praise seems odd coming from James, who could also break that record at the rate he is going. James is currently 18th with 25,525 points, per ESPN, so one can just imagine the ladder Durant would have to climb.
