Josh Gordon has taken the first step toward reclaiming his spot as one of the NFL’s top wide receivers, per ESPN, and his new coach’s distaste for Johnny Manziel will work in Gordon’s favor.
It has been widely reported that one of Hue Jackson’s conditions for taking over the Browns’ head coaching job was moving on from Manziel, and his recent comments about Manziel’s jaunt to Las Vegas while dealing with a concussion solidified Jackson’s position.

"Anytime things are not done the correct way with any player at any position, it would be a non-starter with me. I do believe that this team does need a quarterback,'' Jackson said via Cleveland.com.
The Browns have the No. 2 overall pick, and are widely expected to have their choice of the quarterback crop. The Titans hold the No. 1 overall pick and are set at QB with Marcus Mariota, the No. 2 pick in the 2015 Draft. The consensus top quarterback as of now is California’s Jared Goff, who threw 43 touchdowns and just 13 interceptions last season. Goff is considered the most NFL-ready QB prospect in the 2016 crop, and he’d walk into a situation with a high-end receiving target to help him through his first season.
Hue Jackson Wants No Part Of Johnny Football
Goff already offers more promise on the field than Manziel has shown in his eight career starts. Manziel has thrown seven touchdowns against seven interceptions in his career, his one career rushing touchdown is negated by six fumbles. In his career he’s completed 57.8 percent of his passes.
Off the field, Manziel could be even worse for Gordon, who himself violated the terms of his own suspension by consuming alcohol. Gordon is such a talent that Cleveland must do everything in their power to ensure he stays on the right track. Even though Manziel is a first-round quarterback, he has not earned such stock with the Browns because he hasn’t approached Gordon’s production on the field, and he’s arguably been worse off it.
2013 was Gordon’s last full season in the NFL, and he dazzled with 87 catches, 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns. He will learn his fate within 60 days of his application for reinstatement.
