One of the reasons the St. Louis riverfront stadium plan was inadequate and unsatisfactory to retain the Rams was that it was counting on an extra $100 million from the NFL that commissioner Roger Goodell said wasn't happening.
Two weeks later, the Raiders could move to San Diego with the help of a $100 million promise from the NFL, according to The Los Angeles Daily News.
Chargers Apply For Los Angeles Trademarks
With reports indicating that the Chargers are still negotiating with the Rams about a partnership for their Inglewood, Calif., stadium, the Raiders have their sights set on moving to San Diego, The Daily News reported.
"According to sources, San Diego is a very real and viable option for the Raiders," The Daily News indicated. "It's a market the NFL absolutely wants to be in, and one the league is comfortable the Raiders would dominate.
"In fact, don't be surprised if the NFL either waived any relocation fee to facilitate a possible Raiders move to San Diego or set one at a price extremely affordable. Also, the additional $100 million the league promised to the Raiders to go toward a deal in Oakland is expected to be available to them in a move to San Diego."

That has to be making St. Louis city officials and fans saying, "Wait a minute..."
In December, Goodell warned St. Louis not to count on an extra $100 million from the league to help the city build its new stadium to keep the Rams.
"In a sternly worded letter to Gov. Jay Nixon and his stadium task force, [Goodell] warned that the league has no current plans to provide $300 million toward construction of a riverfront stadium here," The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. "The NFL provides a maximum of $200 million to help teams build new stadiums, Goodell wrote. The premise that the league has committed $300 million to the Mississippi River stadium proposal 'is fundamentally inconsistent with the NFL's program of stadium financing,' he said."
But now the Raiders were promised an extra $100 million from the NFL to stay?
It appears St. Louis never had a chance.
