Clippers Cover Lakers’ Championship Banners At Staples Center Arena [VIDEO]

Disrespect or gamesmanship?

The answer seems to depend on who you ask after the Los Angeles Clippers moved to cover up all 16 of the Lakers NBA championships as well as several retired jerseys of some of the franchise's most famed players before a recent preseason game they hosted at the Staples Center.

Both L.A. teams play their home games at Staples, and apparently the upstart Clips have grown weary of looking up to their storied co-tenants.

"Well, I don't look at it as the banner thing," first-year Clippers coach Doc Rivers told the L.A. Times. "I just look at it as putting our guys up. Listen, I think this is our arena when we play. So I just thought it would be good that we show our guys. No disrespect to them. But when we play, it's the Clippers' arena as far as I know."

No word on if the Clips will soon began hanging the Pacific Division banner they won last year from the rafters on the nights they're featured as the host.

When broached with the idea late last season, Blake Griffin told The Times "I kind of have bigger goals than that for the team. I think the team has bigger goals than that."
