Matt Forte Retirement News: Injury History Suggests Running Back's Career Is In Flux After Bears Opt Not To Re-Sign Him [VIDEO]

Matt Forte revealed the Bears will not bring him back in free agency and the decision may have ramifications on his career.

"Despite my wishes, my days as a member of the Chicago Bears have sadly come to an end," Forte said in an Instagram post. "I was informed earlier this week from the GM that they will not be attempting to re-sign me in free agency."

Forte, 30, played eight seasons in Chicago and finishes his tenure there with 2,035 carries for 8,602 yards and 45 touchdowns in 120 games. He rushed for a career-low 389 yards in 13 games in 2015.

Due to his age and injury history, it will be interesting to see if another team gives him a chance to continue his career, or if he elects to retire.

Forte dealt with a toe injury in 2008 and played through a sprained MCL the entire next season after already suffering a pulled hamstring that caused him to miss OTAs.

In 2011, Forte sprained his MCL and missed the remainder of the season. The following campaign, a high-ankle sprain caused him to miss two games.

Given the wear and tear he put on his body and the two-time Pro Bowler being on the wrong side of 30, his future is murky. Still, judging by Forte's Instagram post, he intends to continue his career.
