UFC 166 Fallout: Cain Velasquez Denies Broken Jaw in Win Over Junior Dos Santos That Resulted in a 6-Month Medical Suspension

It turns out that Cain Velasquez was a winner and a loser during his UFC 166 bout with Junior dos Santos on Saturday night in Houston.

Velasquez retained his heavyweight title in the third match between the foes, stopping dos Santos by technical knockout midway through the fifth round. Velasquez won for the second time in the three bouts between the rivals.

On Tuesday, however, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation placed Velasquez's name on its medical suspensions list for a possible broken jaw.

That was news to Velasquez, according to MMAWeekly.com. The website reported that Velasquez had no symptoms of the jaw injury. He would be allowed to return early if cleared by a physician.

But the suspension, which lasts until April 18, 2014, has left Velasquez and his handlers more than confused.

Velasquez's camp said he suffered only superficial injuries.

"There is nothing wrong whatsoever with (Velasquez's) jaw or anything else," Heidi Seibert, a spokesperson for Velasquez's camp, told MMAWeekly.com. "He left fight, went straight to his party, eating and enjoying family and friends. He's been to the amusement park with his daughter already. He is totally fine."

Velasquez reported only soreness after the fight.

""I'm a little sore," Velasquez told UFC Tonight on Wednesday night.  "My throat is sore and I've got a raspy voice."

MMAWeekly.com added that the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation had not immediately responded to the website's request for a clarification on the matter.

Dos Santos also drew a medical suspension, his timetable indefinite, from the bout and will require clearance from an ear, nose and throat doctor for a potential nasal fracture prior to his return.
