Nick Saban clearly has different problems than the everyday person, or even the everyday college football coach.
The head coach of the top-ranked and defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide apparently has made all the winning look too easy. On Wednesday, he addressed the media and took time out to tell Crimson Tide fans not to leave games early.
"I talk about the players playing for 60 minutes a game and competing for 60 minutes a game," he said. "And I think that in some kind of way, everybody that goes to the game should stay there and support the team for the game.
"And maybe if you're not interested in that, you should let somebody else go who really would like to go because I have a lot of recruits there who would like to see a full, enthusiastic stadium."
Collegespun.com reported that the school initiated a "Play For Four, Stay For Four" campaign earlier this season, asking fans to stay for the entire game. The campaign even included signs on the seats at Bryant-Denny Stadium to remind fans not to leave early.
Fans leaving early might actually be a problem at Alabama if it weren't for the fact that the Crimson Tide this season is outscoring their foes by an average of 31 points per game and that most of the games are blowouts by the fourth quarter.
Asking for fans to sit through non-competitive games is a bit of a stretch. Then again, this latest plea is coming from a coach who complained that playing in - and winning -- the national championship game in 2011 cost him a week of recruiting.
The Crimson Tide, who have won three national championships in the last four seasons, have become victims of their own success, and Saban is having difficulty adjusting to the realities of coaching such a dominant program.
