Colin Kaepernick Update: Revenge Stunt On 49ers Shows Immaturity, Could Hurt Trade Value [VIDEO]

Revenge is a dish best served without loose ends. Which may end up costing Colin Kaepernick money or embarrassment. Or both.

Just hours after San Francisco 49ers coach Chip Kelly told reporters that the mercurial quarterback wants to stay in San Francisco, an NFL.com report surfaced saying his agents asked the team's permission to seek a trade via Larry Brown Sports.

Chip Kelly Finally Talks About Colin Kaepernick But Still Says Nothing

If true, Kaepernick may just be getting back at the organization for his believe that they leaked information about him that put him in a less-than-flattering light last season, leading to his eventual benching midway through the season.

Kelly, however, had nothing to do with Kaepernick's issues with 49ers management, having been on the opposite side of the U.S., coaching the Philadelphia Eagles.

49ers Would Be Foolish To Start Blaine Gabbert Over Colin Kaepernick Based On One Stat

The problem for Kaepernick is that he is still under contract, and the 49ers still retain his rights - at least until April 1.

Kaepernick's practical joke on the 49ers may end up costing both him and San Francisco.

Any prospective trade partner might be turned off by the way Kaepernick hung Kelly out to dry. So that could lower what teams would offer San Francisco And while the quarterback's talent is undeniable, so is the fact that he's been one of the worst quarterbacks in the league the last two years.

Teams might not be as willing to offers as much to the 49ers to try to revive the career of a QB with an attitude problem.

Or they might just wait until the 49ers release him in April, then offer a contact that will be substantially less than the $11.9 million he was going to get for remaining on the San Francisco roster.

Conversely, the 49ers already had committed to taking on Kaepernick's salary. They still could keep him and force him to work with a head coach he just embarrassed. An angry Kelly might help him turn around his career and then ship him off to a bad team with a high draft pick.

Kaepernick may have just burned a bridge without him being safely on the other side.
