Sting WWE Return 2016 Rumors: Sting vs. Undertaker Was Still Possible Before Injury To 'Vigilante' [VIDEO]

Sting will not be wrestling this year at WrestleMania 32, but he will receive the honor of being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

"The Vigilante" hasn't competed since September when he lost during his only crack at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions.

Sting suffered a neck injury during the match and has been dealing with spinal stenosis, putting his in-ring future in question.

Though Sting has declined to officially declare himself retired, his only action during WrestleMania weekend will see him accept the WWE's greatest honor on April 2 in Texas. If Sting had it his way and he was healthy, he'd finally have the match against The Undertaker that he's been pining for.

"Oh no, it's an easy one to answer: Yes," Sting told WWE.com when asked if he would have competed at WrestleMania if he was healthy. "If I had my way, yes, of course. I would have loved to have done one more WrestleMania and I would have called it quits at that point. The Undertaker match - that's what I wanted to do."

Many fans were dying to see "The Vigilante" lock horns with "The Deadman," but the WWE went a different route despite having both legends actively competing on its roster last year. Sting lost to Triple H at WrestleMania 31 in his in-ring WWE debut, while The Undertaker toppled Bray Wyatt in his first match at the marquee event since losing The Streak to Brock Lesnar.

Sting has made it no secret that he's always wanted to face "The Demon from Death Valley," but the WWE didn't oblige. Sting said prior to getting hurt, he still had the match in his thoughts.

"Yes, it was in my mind, of course, but everyone knew that I definitely wanted to have that one match," he said. "And, of course, WrestleMania would have been the place to do it. But, I got hurt and the rest is history."

Sting will instead be watching WrestleMania, while The Undertaker will battle Shane McMahon inside Hell in a Cell. If Shane-O Mac wins, he gets control of "RAW" and The Undertaker never competes at WrestleMania again.

It's unknown at this time if Sting, who just turned 57 on Sunday, will ever return to the ring, but right now it seems a match against The Undertaker is a pipedream.
