Gennady Golovkin could eventually get his "dream fight" against Floyd Mayweather, but the unbeaten middleweight champion needs to prove he deserves a shot at the former pound-for-pound king.
Mayweather, who announced his retirement following his unanimous decision win against Andre Berto in September last year, said in an interview with Fighthype that he will face Golovkin -- but only if the 33-year-old Kazakh calls out and beats Andre Ward, who is also undefeated in 28 professional fights.

"When you hear stuff about Triple G, like I said before, I told Triple G what he had to do if he wants a fight with me. He's gotta call out Andre Ward, beat Andre Ward, and then I'll fight him," Mayweather said. "I haven't seen him call out Andre Ward yet."
It remains to be seen, though, whether or not Golovkin will eventually decide to face Ward. The 34-0 knockout artist is set to defend his World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization middleweight titles to Dominic Wade on April 23 at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
If Golovkin retains his world titles, the Karaganda, Kazakhstan native is expected to chase reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez later this year.

Golovkin and his camp have been mentioning the possible fight against Mayweather since last year. Golovkin even indicated that he is willing to go down to 154 pounds in order to convince the 49-0 boxing superstar to come out of retirement.
In a recent interview with On The Ropes Boxing Radio, Abel Sanchez, Golovkin's trainer, said that he thinks Mayweather is also plotting a comeback fight against his prized student.
"He is saying things about a comeback, he just seems to be fixated on Golovkin," Sanchez said. "I've seen three or four pieces in the last couple of weeks where he's talking about beating Golovkin, it looks like he's laying the ground work for something."
