Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao Rematch: Freddie Roach Thinks ‘Pacman’ Can Win in Second in Second Fight

Freddie Roach is still hoping that Manny Pacquiao will get a rematch with Floyd Mayweather if the Filipino boxing icon wins in his upcoming fight against Timothy Bradley on April 9 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao took a lopsided decision loss to Mayweather during their record-setting showdown in May last year. The former pound-for-pound king revealed that he fought with an injured shoulder, which later required a surgery that sidelined Pacquiao for more than six months.

Roach told reporters that he is still aching for another shot at Mayweather, expressing confidence that Pacquiao will have a better chance of winning if given a chance to avenge the disappointing loss.

"Could we get a rematch with Mayweather? I would like to because I was disappointed with the first performance," Roach said via Philippine Daily Inquirer. "Maybe his shoulder had a lot to do with it. But I know he can do much better and I think he can beat Mayweather."

It is worth noting, though, that Pacquiao has already announced that his third fight with Bradley could be the final bout of his illustrious career. But if the Hall of Fame trainer will have it his way, Roach said that he wants Pacquiao to continue fighting because he still has a lot of gas left in his tank.

Roach admitted that he has not tried to convince Pacquiao to delay his retirement, pointing out that Pacquiao's bid to get a Senate seat in the upcoming elections in the Philippines will be a big factor. The veteran trainer said in jest that he is hoping Pacquiao will not get one of the 12 Senate seat at stake in the 2016 Philippine elections.

"I'm not putting pressure on him. But I know there are a couple of big fights out there for him," Roach said. "If he becomes Senator that might have a lot to do with it because it involves a lot of work and he won't have the time. I'm kind of hoping a little bit that he doesn't become Senator."

Pacquiao, who owns a 57-6-2 record with 38 knockout victories, is favored to win over Bradley after scoring a convincing unanimous decision win in their second fight in April 2014.
