There aren't any teams poised to catch a Trout and, from the sounds of things, none of them are even trying.
With the Angels dealing with myriad injuries, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding their five-tool, star-studded outfielder. For now, the rumors remain just that: rumors.
Given the injuries and struggles of Los Angeles this season, Trout's name has popped up in multiple trade rumors as the club could command a king's ransom in return for dealing its marquee player.
Though there have been plenty of rumors surrounding Trout's future, teams haven't even called on potential trades for the superstar slugger.
"None," Angels general manager Billy Eppler told the Los Angeles Times when asked how many phone calls he's received on Trout.
In 2014, Trout, 24, signed a 6-year, $144.5 million extension with the Angels that keeps him under team control until 2020. Even if they end up not being competitive in 2016, they have at least four years to build around one of the best players in the game to compete for a title in the near future.
The speculation of a potential trade has surrounded the franchise for weeks as the Angels have gotten off to a 19-22 start, but they are only 4.5 games behind the Mariners for first place in the AL West entering Friday after taking three of four in the Freeway Series against the Dodgers.
Trading Trout at this point wouldn't make much sense with it being May and the club still in the hunt.
A lot of the rumors have to do with the injury bug biting the Angels, who currently have a whopping 10 players on the disabled list.
Garrett Richards (torn elbow), Andrew Heaney (flexor strain), C.J. Wilson (shoulder tendinitis), Geovany Soto (torn knee meniscus), Andrelton Simmons (torn thumb ligament), Cliff Pennington (strained hamstring), Craig Gentry (back tightness), Daniel Nava (strained groin), Cory Rasmus (strained groin) and Huston Street (strained oblique) are all on the mend.
Entering Friday, Trout ranks second in the AL with a .416 on-base percentage and third with a 1.004 OPS, while batting .327 with 10 homers and 31 RBIs.
