Sasha Banks' absence from television may have to do with an injury.
"The Boss" was involved in one of the best matches at WrestleMania 32 against Women's Champion Charlotte and Becky Lynch, but has since had a dwindling role in the WWE.
There has been a lot of speculation for why the WWE had cooled down on Banks, which includes the belief that they were saving off her big push for SummerSlam. That theory made little sense due to the WWE opting not to build her up for a potential big push.
It may be more than meets the eye when it comes to Banks' absence as she may actually be injured.
The former NXT Women's Champion reportedly got hurt during a May 15 live event six-person tag match that pitted her, Becky Lynch and Paige against Eva Marie, Lana and Dana Brooke, according to Squared Circle Sirens. The match took place in Charlottesville, Va.
In updated reports, the belief is Banks suffered a head injury, according to The Wrestling Observer. The incident was described as a "freak accident" when her head accidentally made contact with the knee of one of the referees.
It is believed Banks suffered a concussion, which hopefully won't sideline her for too long. It is expected that the former NXT standout will get crowned Womens' Champion at SummerSlam in August, but that remains to be seen.
The loss of Banks is a crucial one to the women's division even if the WWE was holding her back prior to the injury. Banks has the look, character and in-ring talent to be the next face of the division. Banks was held of screen prior to the injury and had to downplay her frustration.
WWE Hall of Famers have even taken notice as Bret Hart, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and, most recently, Trish Stratus, have heaped praise on Banks.
"Sasha, to me, is a star," Stratus told Sports Illustrated. "There are a lot of comparisons, but I don't think we are that similar, actually, at all. But she's the star of the division, and she's the one. She really knows her character, she owns her character, and she's so solid in the ring."
Hopefully she'll be able to display that in-ring skill sometime soon.
