Kurt Angle WWE Return 2016 Rumors: Olympic Hero Addresses Speculation On Comeback, Teases Retirement [POLL, VIDEO]

Kurt Angle may not return to the WWE after all.

There have been plenty of rumors that the Olympic gold medalist could be one of the many former faces the WWE is looking to add to its roster in order to pad out the personnel when "RAW" and "SmackDown" split into separate brands on July 19.

Angle, 47, hasn't competed in a WWE ring since 2006, but he's had a highly-decorated career in TNA in the interim. The WWE has always been skeptical about bringing Angle back due to his personal demons, but speculation that a reunion could be in the works has run rampant.

The former WWE and TNA World Heavyweight Champion recently addressed the speculation and hinted at possibly retiring soon, while lashing out at the reports.

"In response to some of your questions today regarding the WWE, and all of the media fanfare about it the last few days, I want to, once again, say that our confidential conversation never discussed the brand split," Angle wrote on Facebook. "A few wrestling sites seem to have put a spin on this by twisting some words around to fit their agenda, something that I have no control over. What I CAN control is my own life, and my life isn't only wrestling. I do not expect to be in wrestling much longer. I AM excited about my future. Thank you."

Angle, who won a gold medal in 1996, made his WWE debut in 1999 and remained there until 2006, racking up four WWE World Heavyweight Championship reigns.

He also had a very successful TNA run, winning Dixie Carter's promotion's richest prize six times and getting inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame in 2013.

Though Angle shot down rumors of a comeback, he expressed interest in a WWE return earlier this year.

"It's not about even wrestling for the WWE again, it's just having closure," Angle told Vince Russo on his 'The Brand' podcast, according to WrestlingInc back in April. "Being able to have that meeting with Vince where everything is good, it's water under the bridge and we're good to go."

Do you think Kurt Angle belongs back in the WWE?
