Alex Rodriguez Attorneys Call For Federal Probe Of MLB Officials [VIDEO]

Attorneys for embattled New York Yankees infielder Alex Rodriguez are calling for a federal probe of MLB officials entrusted with conducting the ongoing investigation of their client.

"Commissioner Bud Selig is the trustee of our national pastime... I repeat my request that U.S. authorities should initiate an investigation as to whether any federal crimes have been committed by MLB investigators as well as those in the Commissioner's office who may have been complicit in this misconduct--- for example, in the purchase of stolen documents; or whether MLB filed information with the IRS that federal law requires for this type of a commercial transaction involving $125,000 in cash," Lanny Davis, a chief team A-Rod adviser and former special counsel member to President Bill Clinton told the New York Post.

The newspaper has previously reported MLB COO Rob Manfred testified during proceedings for Rodriguez's appeal of his record-setting 211 game suspension for performance enhancing drugs use that he authorized the payment of $125,000 in cash for documents from Biogenesis, the South Florida anti-aging clinic linked to several players suspected of steroids use, that turned out to be stolen.

In response, MLB released a statement reading: "Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association have collectively bargained agreements that govern drug suspensions and the drug suspension of Alex Rodriguez.

"The Arbitration Panel will determine the relevance, if any, and validity of Mr. Davis's baseless claims if and when Mr. Rodriguez lawyers attempt to present actual evidence as opposed to unfounded speculation... We do note that Mr. Davis has nothing to say about the central issue: that Alex Rodriguez violated the joint drug agreement by his use and possession of numerous forms of prohibited performance-enhancing substances over the course of multiple years and violated the Basic Agreement for attempting to cover-up his violations of the Program by engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate the Office of the Commissioner's investigation."
