Wrestling fans' hopes were up as Examiner.com reported over the weekend that 'Hulkamania' would run wild once again in the WWE after the two sides reached "a verbal agreement" for a return to the ring in early 2014, but now reports indicate that there is "no truth" to the report of a verbal agreement. Hogan and the WWE have been in contact, however.
With the reports of the verbal agreement, many fans and wrestling sites started speculating that Hogan may return as a surprise entrant in January's Royal Rumble match which would springboard him to a return with the company for its landmark WrestleMania 30 pay-per-view, and while those plans may end up coming to fruition, PWInsider reports that there has been no agreement reached yet between the two sides.
PWInsider's Mike Johnson wrote the following on the subject:
"Since we have gotten a lot of email over this, there's nothing to stories that Hulk Hogan has made a "verbal" agreement with WWE to return. We have heard that the two sides have been in communication, but nothing has been agreed, sealed, signed, etc."
This communication could lead to a potential deal for Hogan to once again don the red and yellow in a WWE ring, but as of now nothing has been signed. Hulk Hogan put WWE on the map with the widespread popularity of 'Hulkamania' and launched WWE into popularity with the successful WrestleMania I event at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 31, 1985.
With WWE being America's No.1 wrestling promotion and TNA being in financial trouble, it would seem that Hogan, 60, only has one option at this point and that is to return to his old boss and WWE chairman Vince McMahon, but it remains to be seen what type of deal will be struck.
Hogan, a WWE Hall of Famer, left TNA on Oct. 1 when his contract expired and he didn't sign a new pact with the company, which reportedly was paying talents late due to their financial issues. Reports also indicated that Dixie Carter and her family were losing money over the wrestling promotion and looking to sell it, but nothing has been confirmed.
Hogan's profile was also recently removed from the company's official roster, leading to speculation that his days in TNA are in the past.
Hulk Hogan, one of the most iconic figures in the history of professional wrestling, helped launch WrestleMania I back in 1985; perhaps it would only be fitting if Hulkamania ran wild at the landmark event that he helped create during WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans on April 6.
