Could it be Tebow Time in Dallas?
The Cowboys are without a viable backup quarterback after Kellen Moore suffered a broken right fibula, leaving Jameill Showers and rookie Dak Prescot as Dallas' only options. One rumored name, Nick Foles, already signed with the Chiefs, keeping the Cowboys options limited.
While there are some other names out there that could find their way to Dallas -- including that of wayward former Browns signal caller Johnny Manziel -- country star Blake Shelton believes he has the perfect answer: Tim Tebow.
"Tebow, Tebow, Tebow, I say Tebow," Shelton told TMZ Sports. "Call Tim Tebow!"
The former Heisman Trophy winner hasn't played in an NFL game since a stint with the Jets back in 2012, but he's always been open to a return to the gridiron. Though he's remained off the NFL field as a player, Tebow has been plenty busy with television shows, analyzing college football games and releasing a new book.
"I don't know. I think if the right opportunity presents itself, I'll never say never," Tebow told Rolling Stone about the prospects of an NFL return. "But I'm so blessed doing what I'm doing with foundations and my new book and everything with the SEC and ESPN this year. I'm just grateful where I'm at and I'm excited about it."
Tebow had a highly-decorated college football career, which included the Heisman Trophy win in 2007 and leading the Gators to a BCS championship, two SEC championships and a Sugar Bowl win.
The Broncos selected Tebow 25th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft and he had a tremendous overtime playoff win over the Steelers in 2011 before being dealt to the Jets. Shelton isn't the only one pining for a Tebow return as Broncos fans made an online petition imploring Denver to bring him back after Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler bolted for the Texans.
After one season with the Jets in which he was barely used, Tebow surfaced with the Patriots and Eagles, but was cut prior to the season starting in both of those stops. Philadelphia parted ways with Tebow in September of last year which to date has been his last real shot at getting back to the NFL.
Tebow, 28, owns a 47.9 career completion percentage and has thrown for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 35 games -- 16 of which were starts.
