Bill Goldberg is next, according to Brock Lesnar.
Ever since he former WCW and WWE Heavyweight Champion signed on with the WWE to be a part of WWE 2K17, there has been a lot of buzz that he could potentially return to the ring.
Reports have circulated that Goldberg will be in New York City this weekend, where the WWE is set to air SummerSlam from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The man who was once behind an epic 173-0 streak in WCW is likely only there as a part of 2K Sports, not WWE, but it's possible negotiations could occur to get him back to the ring.
Lesnar and his advocate, Paul Heyman, addressed Goldberg's appearance in the video game in a recent video that was released by the WWE.
Heyman congratulated Goldberg on being a "supporting player" in the game," and said it "stars his client." Lesnar then addressed his former adversary.
"Hey Bill," Lesnar says in the clip. "You're next."
This was all likely only done to promote the video game, but Goldberg recently said he'd love to get back in the ring with "The Beast" one day.
Goldberg and Lesnar wrestled each other in an infamous match at WrestleMania XX in March 2004, an event that also took place in New York City as it emanated from Madison Square Garden. The match was a train wreck as the WWE Universe knew both combatants were leaving and turned on the match.
The only thing the vocal audience really cared about was special guest referee "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.
All these years later, Goldberg recently revealed he still thinks about a rematch with Lesnar.
"There hasn't been a day go by since he and I stepped out of that ring in Madison Square Garden I haven't wanted to hook up with him again," Goldberg told Roman Mahut about a potential rematch with Lesnar in June. "For sure."
While a match with Goldberg remains a pipe dream for fans, Lesnar will be facing another legend in Randy Orton this Sunday at SummerSlam.
With Goldberg in town, anything can happen, but thus far he is only listed for appearances to promote the video game on Friday, not the actual SummerSlam event itself.
