Australian Open 2017 Quarter Finals: Johanna Konta Will Face Former World No.1 Serena Williams

World number nine Jo Konta will play against former world number one Serena Williams in the Australian Open 2017's quarter-final. The match will be played this Wednesday 02:00 GMT.

This is the first match between Jo Konta and Serena Williams. Jo Konta has not played against Serena but she played with her sister Venus who is nine-time Grand Slam winner and former world number one player.

As stated in BBC, Konta has a 2-1 winning record over Venus Williams. Out of the three matches, one was a victory in last year's Australian Open.

Konta said, "I've played quite a few Grand Slam champions and former world number ones. So I've prepared myself as much as possible for a competitor like Serena."

"I've been fortunate enough that I've played her sister a few times and I think she's just as incredible." She added that she was thinking to play against Serena before she retires and she doubts whether she is taking retirement.

She beat Russian Ekaterina Makarova 6-1 6-4 to reach the last eight and that too without dropping a set. It will be her second quarter-final at a Grand Slam compared to Serena's 47th.

Serena had won six Australian Open titles and she is in pursuit of her seventh. She had played in last year August before her first match of Australian Open. On the other hand, Konta played without a break and achieved career-high of nine from 49 at the end of 2015.

Serena said, "I watch her game a lot. She's been doing really, really well. She has a very attacking game and I look forward to it." She added that she has nothing to lose in this tournament and everything here is a bonus for her.

As written in The New York Times, Serena has taken her own game to new heights in recent years, winning nine major singles titles since 2012.

Both, Konta and Serena have not dropped a set so far in this tournament. Fans are expecting a great match between World No. 9, Jo Konta (GBR) and World No. 2, Serena Williams (USA).
