Australian Open: Roger Federer To Face Stan Wawrinka

Roger Federer has marched into the semi-finals of Australian Open. Federer beat Mischa Zverev 6-1, 7-5, 6-2 to enter into semi-finals against Swiss Stan Wawrinka on Thursday.

Roger Federer returned to the court after he played last year at Wimbledon in July suffering from a knee injury. "Feeling as good as I am, playing as good as I am, that's a huge surprise to me," said the 17 time Grand Slam Winner. So can this be an opportunity for him to win a Grand Slam as he is the favourite now after the early losses faced by Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray as reported in foxsports.

Also, the possibilities of Federer Vs Nadal in the finals have also created some excitement amongst the fans. Nadal won against Gael Monfils 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the quarters against Milos Raonic.

Federer did play in the non-ranking Hopman Cup in Perth in January but he came with 18 sets in Melbourne. "I think winning back-to-back matches in best-of-five sets against quality, great players has surprised me most," he said as reported by BBC.

Looking at the records face-to-face Federer has a comprehensive 18-3 score against Wawrinka. Federer has won twice against him in the ATP World Tour Finals and in US Open in the year 2015. Wawrinka the three-time Grand Slam winner spoke about Federer, "Against Roger, it's always special because he's so good. He's the best player of all time. He has an answer for everything. But I managed to beat him in a Grand Slam, so we'll see."

So, this might be the time when Federer could show why he is considered as one of the greatest player of the games. He has a fair chance to grab his 18th Grand Slam title and 5th Australian Open.
