Kevin Durant Injury News: All-Star Forward Could Miss Months, Golden State Warriors To Sign Matt Barnes To Fill Void

Kevin Durant suffered a left knee injury just two minutes into the Golden State Warriors’ 112-108 loss to the Washington Wizards Tuesday. While the official MRI results have yet to come out, there are reports that Durant could miss months and not weeks, as initially hoped for.

As reported by Bleacher Report, according to Adrian Wojnarowski, Kevin Durant’s inner circle is bracing for tough news on Durant’s injured knee. This could mean that the All-Star forward may miss months due to the freak accident that saw teammate Zaza Pachulia fall on him following a rebound scramble with the Washington Wizards’ Marcin Gortat.

The injury, which was initially diagnosed as a hyperextended left knee, could be much worse as evidenced by the Golden State Warriors’ reported impending signing of Matt Barnes. As first reported by Marc Stein and Chris Haynes of ESPN, the Warriors is looking to the veteran wing to fill in the void at the three and four spots left by Kevin Durant.

“It’s a dream come true!” Matt Barnes tweeted. “I feel like I helped start something in ’07 & now I’m coming back to help finish it.” Barnes was waived by the Sacramento Kings following the monster trade that sent DeMarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans. Matt Barnes can play both forward positions, something that Kevin Durant has been doing for the Golden State Warriors this season.

There is six left in the NBA regular season and about two and a half months until the potential start of the Western Conference Finals. With the Houston Rockets, adding dangerous firepower with the acquisition of Lou Williams, and the San Antonio Spurs continuing to play solid basketball, the Golden State Warriors can only hope that Kevin Durant can come back right before the playoffs begin. Coach Steve Kerr was quoted saying that they Warriors can only keep their fingers crossed.
