Think Before You Tweet, Brandin Cooks Twitter War With Teammates May Prove Costly For The New Orleans Saints

The 2017 NFL free agency begins officially on Thursdays this week. That's the time when NFL general managers and front offices would start offering contracts and laying their roster plans. That's also the time when teams would start making trades to further improve their rosters. One of the most coveted players in the NFL this season is New Orleans Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Though not a free agent, the New Orleans Saints have made Brandin Cooks available for trade offers to other teams. A player in Brandin Cooks caliber will definitely command a high value offer; however, some incidents may have affected the New Orleans Saints negotiating strategy.

A Twitter war between Brandin Cooks and some of his teammates may have cost the New Orleans Saints leverage on trade talks with other teams, according to a report from the Bleeding Green Nation. Ever since the New Orleans Saints have made it known to other teams that Brandin Cooks is available for trade offers, several teams have expressed interest in acquiring Brandin Cooks including the Philadelphia Eagles, the Tennessee Titans and the New England Patriots.

The New Orleans Saints have already rejected the New England Patriots offer of their 32nd overall first round draft pick in this year's NFL draft, via a report from CBS Sports. If the No. 32 pick in this year's NFL draft is still not enough for the New Orleans Saints, that's how high they value Brandin Cooks.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Willie Snead started the social media war in an Instagram post a few days ago. Fellow wide receiver Mike Thomas followed it up with an apparent shot to Brandin Cooks last Sunday. Brandin Cooks obviously didn't back down as he responded with his own Tweet.

The Twitter may seem to be harmless except from a few bruised egos, but it may have already affected the New Orleans Saints' bargaining chip on the Brandin cooks trade talks. Just a day after the Twitter wars, the Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly backed down from the Brandin Cooks sweepstakes.

The Philadelphia Eagles backing out a day after the Twitter wars may be viewed as coincidence, but considering just last week the Philadelphia Eagles were in the lead for the Brandon Cooks sweepstakes, it just can't be easily dismissed as coincidence. It would be interesting to see how the next few days would play out, whether teams would still be interested with the New Orleans Saints high asking price for Brandin Cooks or will the New Orleans Saints will relent and lower their demand.
