Ricardo Mayorga Promises Fans Thrilling and Exciting Last Hurrah Fight

For obvious reasons, fighters - mediocre or great - share a common characteristic attitude of clinging on their beloved sports even years after having reached their prime or the pinnacle of their sport by becoming world champions.  Ricardo Mayorga, a Nicaraguan former world champion and who was once wrecking havoc in the welterweight division, is no exception to that. After a long hiatus following a series of humiliating knockout defeats later in his career, he is climbing the ring again in what appears to be his last hurrah, BoxingScene reports.

Ricardo Mayorga (39-9-1,29KOs) who, in December 2016, was left bloodied when he figured in an altercation at a gas station in his native Managua, is currently in deep training preparing for a ring confrontation against a relatively unknown Mexican pugilist in the person of Jaudiel Zepeda (12-17-1, 9 KOs). They agreed to fight at a catchweight of 165 lbs. Mayorga last fought in December 2015 in a losing effort against future hall of famer Shane Mosely while Zepeda failed to secure a victory since 2009.

For Ricardo Mayorga, who once shared the boxing limelight with sport's greats Oscar dela Hoya, Tito Trinidad, and Shane Mosely himself, this fight which is taking place on April 1 in Managua is life and death in terms of importance. At 44, an already advanced age in boxing, this fight is his last chance for a one more shot at boxing glories - fame and fortune. "I'm going to knock out that Mexican out in the first round, and if I don't ... then I'm going to retire for life. I will not to make a fool of myself." Mayorga told a news conference, BoxingScence further reports.

Boxers, like Mayorga,  issuing a promise to put to sleep their opponent come fight night is common place but making the same promise with the condition of achieving it in the opening round and offering permanent retirement should they fail to deliver is  extremely audacious.  This brings a lot of excitement and thrill to the fans, and Ricardo Mayorga maybe bluffing or not has, up his sleeves, the tools needed to accomplish the difficult task.  Should he be able to do it, the possibility of him facing Conor McGregor, the current UFC superstar and cash cow, is not farfetched.
