Despite winning just once in his last six fights, Anderson Silva has suddenly become a popular target to call out for UFC fighters, particularly those looking for “big money fights.” Middleweight no. 1 contender Yoel Romero, after being bypassed in the title picture by Georges St-Pierre, recently said he wants to fight the former middleweight champion for the interim belt. Meanwhile, Silva took to social media to call out current champion Michael Bisping and Nick Diaz.
As noted by Bleacher Report, Anderson Silva recently took to Instagram to call out two previous opponents he failed to defeat. As a refresher, Silva lost a close decision to Michael Bisping in February 2016 – a fight that saw him knockout the Englishman at the end of the third round with a brutal flying knee. His fight with Nick Diaz, for its part, saw a decision victory overturned to a no contest, after the two combatants fail their respective drug tests.
Meanwhile, Yoel Romero looks to get over the UFC’s decision to pass him over in favor of Georges St-Pierre by challenging Anderson Silva for the interim middleweight belt. “If you look at the top five rankings, everyone is busy and the only ones that are not booked are Anderson and I,” Romero said during a recent edition of “MMA Hour.” As noted by MMA Fighting, fighting the seventh-ranked Silva could be Romero’s only shot at not being inactive for too long, as he waits for the winner of the Michael Bisping – Georges St-Pierre superfight.
As pointed out by Bleacher Report, Anderson Silva – who looked set to retire after a surprising string of losses – was also called out by new middleweight contender Kelvin Gastelum following his win at UFC Fight Night 106. Before beating Derek Brunson in a controversial decision at UFC 208, Anderson Silva had not won a fight since 2012 at UFC 153.
