Tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET, the Nashville Predators (10-9-2, 22 points) and Toronto Maple Leafs (13-7-1, 27 points) go head-to-head live from the Air Canada Centre for the second and final meeting this season. Nashville and Toronto both enter play riding two-game winning streaks. The last time these two teams met, the Maple Leafs blanked the Predators 4-0 in Nashville on Oct. 10.
Nazem Kadri (5-9-14) returns for the Maple Leafs tonight after serving a three-game suspension for an illegal hit on Minnesota Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom on Nov. 13.
"I've never had an incident like that, where some of my hits have been questioned," Kadri said via NHL.com. "Normally, I'll hit guys when they're vulnerable, but I'll make sure my arms are down, and my shoulders are down."
Predators rookie goalie Marek Mazanec recorded his first-career shutout Tuesday nights while recording 27 saves in a 2-0 victory over the Red Wings in Detroit.
"He's catching up to the level," coach Barry Trotz said per NHL.com. "He's confident after seeing some of the best players in the world. When you start facing those guys on a regular basis, you're going to feel a little bit more confident if you have success."
The Predators have been led on the score sheet by David Legwand, who has 18 points off of four goals and 14 assists while Patric Hornqvist has six tallies and seven helpers for 13 points and captain Shea Weber has two goals and an assist in his past two games for a total of 11 points off of six goals and five assists.
Phil Kessel has paced Toronto with 21 points by finding the back of the net 12 times and adding nine assists while James van Riemsdyk (nine goals, seven assists) and Mason Raymond (eight tallies, eight helpers) each have 16 points.
With Pekka Rinne sidelined, Carter Hutton has appeared in 10 games for Nashville and put up a 4-3-1 record with a 3.39 goals-against average and a .891 save percentage. Jonathan Bernier has started 14 of 23 games for the Leafs and is 8-5-1 with a 2.05 GAA and a .939 save percentage.
The Predators and Maple Leafs each look to extend their winning streaks to three games when they hit the ice tonight in Toronto.
