Floyd Mayweather Vs Conor McGregor News: McGregor Says They’re ‘Very Close To Inking It,’ Mayweather Enlists UFC Fighter To Help Him Train

It seems like the world won’t go a day without hearing something about the potential Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight. And on Tuesday, reports came out that the UFC lightweight champion is ‘very close’ to inking the fight with the undefeated boxer.

As reported by FOX Sports, Conor McGregor recently told IFL TV about the ongoing negotiations for a fight with Floyd Mayweather. “I’m ready, I look forward to it – I’m excited and prepared, we’re very close to inking it,” the brash Irishman said. “I’m not going to say no more, we’re very close, that’s it.”

The report, citing sources, said that the tentative date for the Floyd Mayweather – Conor McGregor spectacle is sometime in mid-September, with the venue supposedly in Las Vegas. This runs contrary to previous statements by Mayweather where he said he would like to fight the MMA fighter in June, while saying in a separate interview that he would prefer that the fight be held in Moscow.

Meanwhile, according to Helen Yee, Floyd Mayweather has enlisted the help of UFC lightweight Kevin Lee to help him with his preparation for Conor McGregor. The UFC fighter said that the Money Team has been in touch with him, for what he assumes to be a sparring partner post. Kevin Lee also said that he believes Mayweather will be starting training camp soon, either this week or the next, and expects Mayweather to spar with him once he gets into shape.

While details have yet to be ironed out, and as the three sides – Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor and the UFC – continue to provide the media with differing sound bites, it appears that all sides are working towards the common goal of getting the fight done. The fight between stars from two different sports has captured the world’s imagination. And while there are few people outside of Conor McGregor’s camp who believe the UFC champion has a chance in a boxing match, you can be sure that people will tune in should the fight actually go down.
