Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Date And Latest Rumors: New Model Will Be Cheaper And More Powerful, Will Feature Ryzen And Intel CPU

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is one of the most anticipated devices this year. The last version of the tablet/laptop hybrid was released back in 2015 which makes it ripe for a much-needed upgrade. While every upgrade shows an increase in performance, this year's model will have a more significant jump and possibly, at a lower price.

The jump in performance for a cheaper price is driven by the release of AMD's Ryzen CPUs which have taken the computer world by storm. The new batch of CPUs features more cores and threads than its Intel counterparts for a lower price. The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 and its earlier versions have primarily used Intel's CPUs, a change to AMD may be coming based on a recent theory according to Express.

The rumor behind the changes for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 lies in the trailer of the upcoming movie, Alien: Covenant. The trailer shows a scientist holding a device that looks to be the Microsoft Surface Pro which then leads to embedding a chip with the AMD logo on the head of Walter. The movie is sponsored by Intel's rival AMD, with the description, "Intelligence powered AMD, Ryzen, and Radeon.

Meanwhile, another rumor suggests that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will have two variants. The two variants will feature different CPUs from Intel and AMD. This is good news for fans who have supported Intel over the years but the better choice may have to be with the AMD processors.

Intel has had a majority control over the CPU market which allowed them to overprice their products with minimal boosts in performance. AMD looks to take back their share of the market with their Ryzen CPUs. Ryzen CPUs have consistently performed better than Intel CPUs in a majority of tasks for a lower cost. A Microsoft Surface Pro 5 with Ryzen chips is the better choice as it offers better performance and possibly, at a lower price.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is scheduled for release in spring 2017 at the earliest. Stay tuned for more details.
