Kevin Durant Injury News: Golden State Warriors Optimistic Durant Could Return In Regular Season, Looks Comfortable Shooting On The Move [Video]

The Golden State Warriors are currently riding a five-game winning streak, hiking their record without injured forward Kevin Durant to 7-5 since the former MVP injured his left knee on Feb. 28. But while the Warriors have struggled without Durant, reports have come out saying that the explosive scorer could see the hardwood before the regular season ends.

Citing a report from ESPN’s Marc Stein, Bleacher report notes that the Golden State Warriors are optimistic that Kevin Durant can shake off the rust before they begin their quest for their second title in three years. According to the report, while Durant is still at the halfway stage of his recovery period, the Warriors are encouraged by the progress the All-Star has made since suffering a sprained MCL and tibial bone bruise on Feb. 28.

As noted by ESPN, Kevin Durant completed his first on-court workout that included running and shots on the move prior to the Golden State Warriors’ win against the Dallas Mavericks Tuesday. The team is expected to release an updated progress report sometime next week.

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr declined to comment on his star’s potential return, opting to wait for the next week’s progress report, but admitted that he continues to like what he sees from Kevin Durant. As pointed out by the report, the former Oklahoma City Thunder has quickly progressed from shooting from a wheelchair to standstill shooting, to the shooting drill he completed Tuesday.

Kevin Durant looked fluid as he swished jumper after jumper during the shooting workout, moving from one elbow to the other at the top of the key. The Golden State Warriors are currently 2 ½ games in front of the San Antonio Spurs for the top seed in the Western Conference with 11 games left in the season. Holding on to the top spot ensures that the Warriors will not have to go through the tough challenge hypothetically presented by a Western Conference Finals matchup with the Houston Rockets.
