The New York Knicks are off to a disappointing start in the 2013-14 NBA season with a 3-8 record, and players like Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith have aired their displeasure about the horrible play of the team. New York fans are back to jeering the team after a strong 2012-13 season and one of the targets of criticism is coach Mike Woodson.
Still, the man who owns the franchise, James Dolan, is keeping it cool and has given his coach a vote of confidence.
In a rare interview granted by Dolan, the New York Knicks owner said he has a lot of respect in his coach. He told the New York Post: " I have a lot of confidence in Woodson, and one thing I can say about Mike is he has the respect of all the players. They all respect him. And he treats them fairly and relatively equally, and that's part of where the respect emanates from. And those are hard things to get from a coach. When a coach loses a team ... that's when a coach is kind of done."
He also implied that Woodson can help the team win again. "With Mike, I think he can get us there. Mostly, I think Carmelo can get us there, and the other players can get us there, they're going to have to jell and I think Mike can do a lot to get that to happen. Because he has their respect."
Woodson, who coached the team to a 54-28 record, was hired in 2012 by the Knicks after Mike D'Antoni was fired by the team. The Knicks have struggled to a slow start in the current season with injuries to starting center Tyson Chandler and forward Amar'e Stoudemire.
