Chicago Bulls star guard Derrick Rose is set for surgery on his right knee on Monday, according to The Chicago Tribune.
The procedure is scheduled to be performed by team physician Dr. Brian Cole and will mark the second major knee surgery the 25-year-old veteran guard and 2011 league MVP has undergone in less than two full seasons.
The team has set the timetable for the three-time All-Star's return as indefinite after an MRI in Los Angeles revealed on Sunday he suffered a medial meniscus tear in Friday's game against Portland on a non-contact play.
Almost as much as Rose's prognosis the question of how the Bulls might now react to his absence is garnering widespread chatter across the league. The Tribune is already reporting the Bulls may now be open to dealing All-Star forward Luol Deng, who is in the final year of his contract and becomes a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, the newspaper also reports Rose will likely opt to have his meniscus reattached, which would be better for him long-term but could sideline him longer.
Rose averaged 16 points and four assists over the Bulls first 11 games.
