Mikey Garcia Wants to Challenge Junior Welterweight King Terence Crawford

No, not in the immediate future is Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs) wants to challenge the junior welterweight post of Terence Crawford (30-0, 21KOs).  When he is finished with his assignment at lightweight - one of which is a potential unification bout with WBA lightweight king George Linares - only then is the Ventura, California native would be moving up north at junior welterweight which is presently being manned by the warrior from Omaha, Nebraska.

After a two year-long hiatus, Mikey Garcia, 29, came back to knockout the previously undefeated Dejan Zlaticanin for his WBC lightweight world title. And if all things goes as planned his next assignment is to engage George Linares,

Should Mikey Garcia emerged victorious over George Linares, the subsequent plan is not to stay unchallenged at lightweight but to try to scoop another belt at a higher division, at 140 lbs. So Garcia is on a collision course with Crawford at the end of this year or in early 2018. As amateurs, they are 1-0 in favor of Crawford. Garcia wants to even out the score in the professional ranks.

Terence Crawford, 29. for his part has a date  on May 20  at the Madison Square Garden in New York City in which he is tasked to defend his WBC, WBO, Ring Magazine and lineal world titles against Felix Diaz.  Diaz is from the Dominican Republic who won a gold medal for his country at the 2008 Beijing Games. Although not a walk in a park, Diaz appears to be easier to beat than Crawford's previous opponents like Yuriorkis Gamboa and Victor Postol.

If fights are to be ranked in terms of unpredictability of the outcome, this potential Mikey Garcia-Terence Crawford showdown should fall in the top 10. They both employ the warfare of allowing opponents to attack while offering little resistance - jabbing - and then bang! The opponent would fall to the canvas like a sack of potatoes. Garcia-Crawford would certainly be a breath-taking, thrilling war of wits, like a chess match, between two superlative tacticians in the fight game today.
