NFL Rumors: Adrian Peterson Interested To Join Patriots

Adrian Peterson is arguably the best running back in the history of the NFL. So it's kind of surprising that Peterson is still unemployed. The reason may be a combination of teams fearful of Peterson's past transgressions and decline. It can also mean that Peterson may be looking for a team that will finally bring him a championship. One of the teams that seem to interest Peterson is the New England Patriots.

According to a report from ESPN, Adrian Peterson will be visiting the New England Patriots to talk about a potential team up. This will mark the second time Peterson will visit the New England Patriots. And from the looks of it, it may be a done deal.

The New England Patriots are in need of a bruising Running Back which Adrian Peterson would greatly fulfill. The opening spot came at a time when LeGarrette Blount is now a free agent. Adrian Peterson, a former MVP would replace the spot of Blount as the team's starting running back.

The Patriots currently have Dion Lewis, James White, Rex Burkhead and D.J. Foster on the roster as running backs. The team will also look to draft a running back if they fail to sign a replacement for Blount. If they sign Adrian Peterson, they may not need to look for another running back as the veteran is still capable of contributing to the team.

The problem for Adrian Peterson however, is that the New England Patriots is strapped for cash. The Patriots will look to offer an extension to Brandin Cooks to lock him up for several more years as heads to his prime. For Peterson, he may have to settle for less cash if he hopes to join the defending champions.

Adrian Peterson is coming off an injury-plagued season where he played a total of 3 games. It will be a risk for the New England Patriots to sign the running back. Robert Kraft once said he won't endorse signing Peterson given his troubled past. Then again, if the Patriots invited Peterson for another visit, then maybe Kraft may have had a change of heart. Meanwhile, Adrian Peterson may also be considering taking less money to join the champs.
