Jameis Winston News: FSU Heisman Candidate To Be Charged With Sexual Assault? Prosecutors Weeks Away From Deciding [VIDEO]

Jameis Winston may well be an ACC champion before he knows if he will face felony sexual assault charges.

According to CBSNews.com, the Tallahassee State's Attorney is probably at least weeks away from deciding whether to bring charges against the redshirt freshmen and top-tier Heisman Trophy candidate Florida State star quarterback.

"It's mostly after next week," assistant state attorney Georgia Cappleman of the Second Judicial Circuit told CBS Sports. Cappleman added the state's attorney office is now awaiting evidence that hasn't yet arrived before rendering a final decision.

Winston is accused of sexually assaulting a fellow student at an off campus party on the night of Dec. 7, 2012, during which it has been reported the alleged victim had been drinking.

State Attorney Willie Meggs told reporters last week that a ruling would not come before Thanksgiving. A week extension from that timeline all but assures Winston will play in the ACC championship game for the No.2 ranked Seminoles on Dec. 7 in Charlotte.

Lead defense attorney Tim Jansen contends the sex was consensual while Winston has yet to speak with prosecutors or reporters concerning the matter. Jansen also maintains he was told as recently as February the case had been closed and no charges were forthcoming for his client.
