Tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles Kings (16-6-3, 35 points) and the San Jose Sharks (15-3-5, 35 points) faceoff live from the SAP Center in San Jose in the second of five meetings this season. Los Angeles and San Jose enter the game tied for second in the Pacific Division with 35 points each while the Sharks have played two less games. In their first meeting this season, the Kings topped the Sharks 4-3 in Los Angeles on Oct. 30 in overtime.
The Kings bring in a four-game road winning streak and notched a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday as Ben Scrivens continues to shine in net in the absence of Jonathan Quick (groin).
"We're going through a stretch where our big guys out, and we've got to try and keep our head above it while we do, and that's what Ben's done," coach Darryl Sutter said, according to NHL.com.
Scrivens is 6-1-3 with a 1.44 goals-against average and a .947 save percentage.
The Sharks are coming off of a 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Despite the win coach Todd McLellan has expressed frustration in his penalty kill and power play, which are each ranked 16th and 13th in the league respectfully.
"Players just have to be reminded that these are the things we do, this is how we do them," McLellan said Tuesday, according to the San Jose Mercury News. "If the other team can beat us at it, then we'll adjust. But right now, that's not the case. We're beating ourselves in some of those situations."
San Jose has been paced by Joe Thornton, who has two goals and 22 assists for 24 points this season while Patrick Marleau (11 goals, 12 assists) and Logan Couture (eight goals, 15 assists) each have 23 points.
For Los Angeles, Anze Kopitar has paved the way with seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points while Mike Richards has lit the lamp six times and added 13 helpers for 19 points and Justin Williams has found the twine nine times and added nine assists for 18 points.
Los Angeles will try to solve Antti Niemi, who is 12-3-5 with a 2.16 GAA and a .917 save percentage thus far this season.
