The New York Knicks were expected to be among the contenders out in the East but have so far struggled mightily, posting a lousy 3-11 record with their latest loss coming at the hands of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Following the setback, Knicks players and coaches held a closed-door meeting for 20 minutes to iron things out and perhaps rekindle the unity that they showed in the previous year.
Star player Carmelo Anthony confirmed the meeting to ESPN.com, saying: "We talked. Everybody talked. The players had a meeting, the coaches -- everybody had a meeting after the game. We had to talk. We're trying to figure it out together. We have to put four quarters together. We got to do it for one another. Right now the game is not fun for nobody. We're just not making it happen."
The meeting was held in the visitors' dugout of the Staples Center, where the Knicks absorbed another beating that gave them the third-worst record in the league. They will face the Denver Nuggets on Friday night, and another loss would give them eight straight, a first since February of 2010.
Knicks coach Mike Woodson, who has been the subject of ridicule among the Knicks faithful, sounded convinced that his team can still turn it around. He told ESPN.com: "It's something we haven't experienced the last two years but we just have to stay the course. This is no time to panic and feel that you can't get out of it. You win one game and that gets your confidence back going and there's no telling what can happen so we just have to stay the course, keep grinding and see what happens."
