George Zimmerman News Update: Trayvon Martin Shooter Still Owes Attorneys Mark O'Mara, Don West $2.5 Million In Legal Fees? [VIDEO]

George Zimmerman still owes $2.5 million in legal fees to the team of high-priced attorneys who gained his acquittal earlier this year in the shooting death of unarmed Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

According to the New York Daily News, Zimmerman, a self-appointed neighborhood watch captain who shot Martin after ignoring a 911 dispatcher's advice to cease with following the teen he said looked suspicious because he was wearing a hoodie, owes the money to lead attorneys Mark O'Mara and Don West strictly for legal fees.

The Daily News adds the duo originally offered Zimmerman their services for free but notified him about two months ago they planned to collect on the outstanding debt. Since being acquitted, the newspaper has previously reported Zimmerman has had at least four known run-ins with police, including his arrest on Nov. 18 on domestic violence charges related to an alleged gun-wielding attack on his new girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe.

The Daily News also reports Zimmerman and his family recently began soliciting funds and donations online. Soon after he was initially charged in Martin's killing, several media outlets reported the family raised more than $400,000 for his legal defense fund.

The newspaper adds that Zimmerman is also in the process of getting divorced from wife Shellie Zimmerman. He has reported having just $144 to his name. At the time of his arrest in the Scheibe incident, The Daily News reports police recovered five guns and more than 100 rounds of ammunition from the Florida home the couple shared.
