Either Jason Dufner and Tiger Woods are really good friends or Woods is a cold businessman.
CBSSports.com and Golfweek.com are reporting that Dufner suddenly has a conflict with his scheduled appearance in the 18-player Northwestern Mutual World Challenge, a tournament Tiger Woods hosts as part of his duties for the Tiger Woods Foundation.
Dufner is an alumnus of Auburn, and his Tigers find themselves in the SEC championship game against Missouri on Saturday. So he looked for sympathy from a fellow Tiger.
Tiger Woods, that is.
Dufner posted a request of Woods on Twitter that the tournament benefactor shorten the event to two days to allow Dufner to watch Auburn try to win an SEC title and a possible berth in the BCS national championship game.
@JasonDufner: "Dear Mr @TigerWoods I petition the event this week to play 36 holes Thurs and Friday,so I can watch my beloved Auburn play for SEC champ thx"
Woods apparently didn't need much time to consider Dufner's request. Less than three hours later: @TigerWoods: "@JasonDufner Petition denied."
Dufner shot back.
@JasonDufner: "@TigerWoods total B.S. It was worth a try tho."
Golfweek.com noted the unusual response from Woods' Twitter account. It said the tweet was just the 12th from the account in the last 180 days.
The "argument" invited response from others.
From fellow PGA tour golfer Pat Perez:
"@JasonDufner @TigerWoods. You gotta play worse Duf during the year so you have time off like me to watch all the good stuff"
From Arron Oberholser, another golfer on the tour:
"@JasonDufner @TigerWoods pull out. Give someone else a spot. I'll play for that last place check. Who gives a rats about football"
From Hunter Mahan:
"@JasonDufner I second that!! The cowboys play at 9 am"
But Fox Sports 1 senior manager Todd Behrendt may have figured out the real reason Tiger said no:
"@TigerWoods @JasonDufner If only Stanford didn't have the late start, you'd have had a shot, Jason"
The Stanford-Arizona State Pac-12 championship game is scheduled to start at 4:45 p.m. Pacific Time.
