The Detroit Pistons have named Monty Williams as their new head coach.
Williams agreed to a six-year contract worth $78.5 million, making it the largest coaching deal in NBA history, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Monty Williams Named New Detroit Pistons Coach
The 2022 NBA Coach of the Year's deal with the Pistons could reach upward of eight years and $100 million, depending on team options, incentives, and various circumstances, per insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Williams previously coached the Phoenix Suns from 2019 until May 2023 after being eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in six games in the Western Conference Semifinals.
He coached Phoenix to a berth in the 2021 NBA Finals and their best record in franchise history in the 2021-22 season at 64-18.
However, Williams and the Suns failed to advance further than the Western Conference Semifinals in the past two years, ending both seasons via blowout losses at home.
The 51-year-old mentor will replace Dwane Casey, who has coached the team for five seasons. He will be transitioning to a front-office role.
Williams also served as the head coach of the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans from 2010 to 2015.
He took up assistant coaching jobs with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers before leading the way in Phoenix.
