Newly-hired Pistons coach Monty Williams bared a shocking revelation as he was being introduced as the franchise's next mentor.

The 51-year-old coach revealed that he was planning to take time off after the Suns dismissed him due to his wife Lisa, who was diagnosed with breast cancer during the team's playoff run, as per Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press.

Fortunately, the illness was detected early, which allowed Williams to accept the Pistons head coaching position.

"The reason I bring that up is to not talk about the family, but to make it more of an emphasis that women need early detection testing. We had genetic testing done and scan after scan, and we found it early," Williams said.

The 2022 NBA Coach of the Year added that the procedure might have saved his wife's life and others.

The former Suns' coach signed a six-year, $78.5 million contract with Detroit, which could reach upward of eight years and $100 million, depending on various team options and incentives, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic.

It is by far the biggest coaching deal in NBA history.

Williams' lucrative contract with the Pistons stipulates that the team will provide private jet access and healthcare benefits for his wife, and assistance in finding housing and schools for his children.

The team will also help reduce the impact of moving cross-country from Phoenix as his family continues handling his wife's health.
