Musician Drake wrote a message of gratitude for departing Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet while adding a little bit of humor.

Referring to the 29-year-old guard as his "lookalike," the Grammy-winning rapper thanked VanVleet for his unforgettable contributions to the city, adding that the love is forever.

Drake then trolled VanVleet by jokingly wishing him luck with his new "overseas" team.

"Good luck with everything on the Guangdong Dragons........ I mean the Rockets," the 36-year-old musician said. VanVleet made a brief response, telling Drake to "relax."

Chinese teams have been used as meme content by NBA fans for players who underperform, with fans joking that underwhelming players would be playing for overseas teams if they continue to play subpar.

However, VanVleet is far from the definition of an underperforming player. He famously scored a then-playoff career-high 22 points alongside five threes in the title-clinching Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, where the Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors to capture their first title in franchise history.

Drake has been a global ambassador for the team since 2013.

Fred VanVleet Becomes Most Lucrative Undrafted Player Again

VanVleet signed a three-year, $130 million deal with the Houston Rockets, the largest contract given to an undrafted player in NBA history.

He previously set the record for the largest contract by an undrafted player in 2020 when he signed a four-year, $85 million extension with Toronto in 2020. However, Duncan Robinson surpassed it a year later when he signed a $90 million deal with Miami.
