Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo reportedly underwent a cleanup procedure on his left knee two weeks ago, leaving him uncertain about representing Greece for the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup in the Philippines from August 25 to September 10.

The 2021 NBA Finals MVP proudly represented his country during the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China and the EuroBasket 2022.

Antetokounmpo has been feeling lingering discomfort in his knee since the start of the offseason, and he and the team decided that the surgery was necessary.

"He had a routine surgery on his left knee, and it went great. Everything went as planned, and we expect him back and ready to go in training camp," Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin told reporters on Wednesday.

Cleanup procedures are relatively minor and routine, and it took the Bucks two weeks to report it should not be a cause of concern. The two-time MVP also dealt with back and wrist injuries during their playoff run.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is already in China

Another proof that the procedure is minor - the Bucks superstar is already in China with his brothers Thanasis, Kostas, and Alex as part of his endorsement deal with Nike.

Player visits in overseas countries usually involve a youth basketball camp, but it is unclear if the Antetokounmpo brothers held their own in the Asian region.

The brothers received rockstar treatment from Chinese fans, with a group of them following their vehicle with a taxi just to get a glimpse of the seven-time All-Star.
